Scoop and Mix
Chinese telecoms giant SGW, traditionally a producer of DECTs (digital electronic cordless telephones), recently came to Conran in order to develop some entry level mobile phones.
We were asked to design two models that eschewed the cheap, tacky feel of many entry level phones. We took inspiration from two very different places to produce a striking pair of phones: Scoop and Mix.
We chose a simple, natural form for Scoop – a pebble shape that nests comfortably in the palm of your hand. The phone feels light but strong, and the brightly coloured keypad adds a playful touch.
The grooved surface of Mix is visually interesting but also practical, adding tactility and grip. We were inspired by the mechanical precision of studio mixing desks: machined, rigid and elegant.
